Kelly Ripa is an American actress, model and television personality. She is best known for her role as host of the NBC game show “Live! with Kelly” from 2001 to 2009 and her role as host of “The View” from 2011 to 2018. She has also appeared in numerous television series, including “NYPD Blue”, “Frasier”, and “Friends”. In 2010, Ripa appeared on the cover of “Maxim” magazine’s annual Hot 100 issue.

Ripa was born Kelly Jo O’Donnell in New York City, New York, on February 9, 1969. Her father is a former NYPD officer who died in 2013 due to complications from diabetes; he has been described as a former alcoholic who was abusive towards his family. Her mother was a secretary at a local hospital and attended night school. Her parents divorced when she was five years old; she has one sibling, an older sister named Dana. At age six, she took ballet and tap classes and was involved in a local theater group. In the fifth grade, she became interested in acting.

Ripa attended New York City’s Professional Children’s School, where she was a student for five years. After graduating from high school, she entered New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts to study dance, but later switched her focus to acting. While at NYU, Ripa was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and worked as an intern at “Vogue” magazine during her junior year. In 1990, she made her professional stage debut in “The Tempest” at the Public Theater under the direction of Phyllis Nagy.

After graduating from NYU in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting and Dance, Ripa moved to Los Angeles and began working as an assistant to fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa while pursuing an acting career. Soon after arriving in Los Angeles, Ripa landed her first screen role in the 1991 film “Dangerous Minds”.

By 1993, Ripa had guest-starred in nine television series, including “Murder, She Wrote” and “Murphy Brown”. In 1994, she was cast as a supporting character in the ABC sitcom “Spin City” and co-starred with Tom Hanks in the NBC movie “Joe Versus the Volcano”. The following year, Ripa starred in her first lead role in the ABC drama series “The New Adventures of Old Christine”. The show ran for two seasons before being canceled.

Ripa and Mark Consuelos have been married since 1996. They have two children, Michael (born in 1999), and JoAnna (born in 2003). In October 2013, Ripa gave birth to her second child, a son, Michael Angelo. Mark Consuelos is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Michael Corinthos on the ABC daytime drama “General Hospital”, from 1982 to 1984.
